I got hooked (ha! get it? hooked?!) on amigurumi earlier this year when I discovered the brilliant designs of Mia at Owlishly. I absolutely love her work – so cute! When I got started on amigurumi, I bought a bevy of great amigurumi books (Mia sells her patterns individually in her Etsy shop – please check them out!) – all the books are from very talented designers. And I need to share one of these fabulous books with you, so…
Today, I will be giving one lucky commenter an amazing amigurumi book and a handmade crochet hook roll!
The book is Kyuuto! Japanese Crafts: Amigurumiby Tomoko Takamori. Kyuuto! = CUTE!!! (I just want to run around the house yelling that – don’t you? …or is it only me? KYUUTO!!!!!!!!) Look at some of these little guys whose patterns are in the book…
Sorry about the poor quality of the pictures – that was hard taking pictures of pictures in a book!
Look at those little frogs just lying around waiting to play!
While this book has some great patterns that are pretty easy to read, if you’ve never crocheted before, you might want to hop online and find some basic instructions for starting and doing single crochet. The book is rather light on specifics for beginners.
The handmade crochet hook roll is similar to the one I made for my giveaway on Tuesday- but I realized when I made that one for the dpn needles, the crochet hooks were much shorter and didn’t really fit into the dpn roll. So I made this one to fit standard size crochet hooks. Again, please note: the crochet hooks in the case are not included in this giveaway – they are mine and I need them!!!
However – if the winner of this giveaway does not have her (or his) own crochet hooks, I will be happy to include some…. these were hooks that I found while I was cleaning out my yarn bag, and they are doubles of ones that I already have (look at that honking HUGE hook! Oh, so much fun to whip up a quick scarf with some bulky yarn – instant gratification!). They are gently used, if they were used at all. So all you will need is some yarn, and you’ll be ready to go!!!
To win this adorable amigurumi giveaway, please leave me a comment (with a valid email address) letting me know who you would give your first little amigurumi to. If you’re not a crocheter (yet!) or if you don’t have any hooks, let me know that, too, so I will know if you would like the extras I have. Comments will be accepted through the end of the week, and the drawing will occur on Saturday, November 1.
If this is your first time here, take a look around – I’d love for you to come back again! Also, check out my Bloggy Giveaways from Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, the giveaway on my other blog, and the others at the Bloggy Giveaway Carnival site!!! Come back each day this week for more giveaway goodness!

I just recently learned to make amigurumi this summer, and love doing it! Each one has it’s own personality! I would love to be entered to win that book! Thank you for such a great giveaway!

Woo Hoo! This is my kind of giveaway. I love to crochet amigurumi and the hook holder is a must have. My hooks are all over the house.
I’d probably make my first amigurumi for myself, is that too selfish?
Thanks for the great giveaway!
I have never (successfully) crochet’ed before (i have very little attention span and crocheting unfortunately only keeps my hands busy, not my mind).
My friend however does crocheting all the time–she’s sick often and needed something she could do while abed–and is getting very good at it! She’s making a me a scarf this winter actually XD So I think she’d love this! hopefully I can surprise her with it and she’ll make me a little amigurumi as a lucky charm

SO. COOL. I was just last night teaching my 12yo Girlie how to crochet! I think she would love to learn how to make such cute little softies. Definitely count me in!
Oh, she already has a set of hooks, but not a big one for chunky yarns.
I would give it to my daughter- I’ve never done it so it probably wouldn’t be gift worthy.
please enter me thanks mrs.mommyyATgmail.com
I have never done this, but I’ve saved tons of ideas for when I have the money to buy the stuff I need. This would be awesome! I’d probably keep my first & then make 2 more for my 2 daughters!
My cousin is due with a baby in a few weeks, so he for sure would get my very first creation, think its fitting a new creation for the newest creation in our family.
I’ve been eyeing that book for a while. I’d love to make the little sheep guys for my boyfriend’s mother. She collects sheepy things. The hook holder looks great! I’d love to have an organized place for all of my hooks, so maybe then I’d know what I have!
I would actually have to make 2- one for my own daughter and one for my niece. They would just love these!!! Of course, my mom would be able to help me a little bit since she’s the pro-crocheter in the family!

So cute – I have never done amigurumi, but I’ve wanted to. My first one would go to my 4 mo old, as I haven’t crafted anything for her yet. The next would go to her older sister!I already have hooks, but not a big one This is a wonderful giveaway – thanks so much!
WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I so want to learn this, what a great giveaway

OOOHHHH! Fun! I am a beginner crocheter, and I have one hook! I would give my first one to my firstborn. She loves to hold little creatures!!!
would love to learn how to crochet. My Grandma used to make blankets and clothes when I was younger.
This would be a fun way of making all natural toys! I love this idea. It’s a cute book and would be fun to do. I find crochet very relaxing too!
I would make my first one for my 4 yr old dd, then I would make a bunch more for the local pregnancy crisis center that our church helps support! How cute would those be in a newborn gift basket?! I used to crochet before my Mamaw (maternal grandma) passed away. She had started about 20 baby/snuggle blankets and her bones became too brittle to even hold her hooks to crochet with (she had breast cancer that eventually metastasized to her entire skeletal system). During her last 6 months or so I was one of her primary caregivers (she raised me so it just felt “full circle” to return the favor…besides she was my mentor/hero/best friend so it was 6 of the most precious months we ever had), and during that time she would sit and coach me how to make the right number of chains and everything and together, her coaching, me crocheting, finished those blankets. Now every one of her great grandbabies gets a blanket from her even though she has been with our Lord for 9 yrs now
…I would love to start back up and the hooks would be a big time blessing
*blush* sorry for the novel lol but ty for bringing back memories of the time I got to spend with her
I would give my first one to my little kiddos, of course!! I don’t crochet ..yet!! But I REALLY want to learn…this would be a great incentive!!

I only have 1 #6 hook – I just tried to learn – so this would be great. Not sure who I would give my first one to, that really depends on how bad a job I do!!! May have to keep & hide the first one!!!
I would actually give the book to my friend who does crochet and keep the crochet roll for myself. I would love to have the hooks too. I have been wanting to learn so maybe my friend will teach me.
I love to crochet!! I need all the help I can get!! What a nice giveaway!

So cute! I just learned to crochet and am looking forward to furthering my skills. I could use any extra crochet hooks too. I’ve just got two so far. Thanks for a great giveaway!
This would actually be for me. I want to start crochetting but don’t have any of the supplies (except some yarn). This would be perfect!
I would makes the first two for my 2 young sons. Then I’d make ones for my twin sister and her son. As a little girl, my granny taught me to crochet. Unfortunately, I didn’t keep up the practice and I have forgotten just about everything. I’ve been wanting to relearn to crochet. This would be the perfect opportunity. At the moment I have no crochet hooks. However, I do have some yarn, because I recently joined a knitting group at my church. I’m such a novice, but it’s fun. Some of the knitting ladies know how to crochet and could help me. Thanks for the opportunity.

I LOVE the crochet hook roll! My first Amigurami would be for my niece, Erin. I’m crocheting a blanket for her baby brother or sister-to-be, so I was thinking of making something for her as well.

I discovered Amigurami earlier this spring. I have yet to make any though. I would love to win this. Thanks for the opportunity!

Thank you for this great giveaway!

Oh my, those are just the cutest!!! I would give it one to my youngest son after I was done making it, or rather he would just take it from me because he loves cute little things.
I haven’t crocheted.. Really really want too but no one I know crochets.. Well, a dear friend did but she can’t anymore and my DD received the LAST blanket she will ever make… I asked for her advice and of course it was practice practice practice.. and make sure that first line is good…. That being said… IF I was able to make one it would be between my ds and dd… Would probably start with something more simply… Thanks for the chance to learn…. wiicked13 [at] yahoo [dot] com
These are so cute.. I’d love to make the little lamb for my niece.
rsgrandinetti@yahoo.com
I would give my first one to my little niece Victoria, then her sister Cici, her cousin Lola and the newest one Ella.
thanks for sharing

This looks so fun. I crochet, but have never made anything so cute. I would give a whole collection of them to my daughter Sara, who is the only girl (besides me) left in our testosterone drenched home…
These are so cute. I’d make a teddy bear for my daughter who is 2 1/2.
But…… I just learned on October 12th. A 49th birthday present to myself. I took a crochet class. For me, it is hard. Especially the hooking into the first row of chain stitches. I can do the double stitch pretty good. And apparently I hold my stitches tight!
Will it ever get easier? (probably with practice….)
I want to be able to add beads to socks for easy/fast coordinating decoration with my toddler’s outfits. Then maybe onto selling the little socks at the local consignment store for a bit of income.
Thank you for the giveaway opportunity!

My younger sister
I’d either give it to one of my girls or maybe my brand-new niece and nephew!
Is it horrible that I want to keep my amigirumi friends all to myself? They are too cute! THe sheep in that book would be an adorable gift for my friend’s baby, though.
Those are too cute! My mother is a crochet queen, I am sure she would get a kick out of it!!
Ohh those ARE cute! Crocheting is like knitting – my gramma taught me when I was a kid, and I’ve mostly forgotten how. Lately my son has been interested in learning, and I have been meaning to re-learn alongside him. We would both love to learn to make such adorable little fellas!
I love these! I think this is my favorite giveaway so far! I would have to give my first ones to my 2 little guys. My boys love handmade stuff and are always asking if I can make them toys instead of buying them.
I love to crochet and have been doing so for awhile now. I learned from my grandmother.
i’m not a crocheter…but I would love to win this for my mom…she is a crocheter. WOuld make a fabulous gift. She loves making little stuffies for my kids.

It would be really nice to have my hooks all together, and say, a book? With patterns? What a novel idea. I am such a freestyler, maybe i should try following directions. The items are super cute. Thanks for a chance.
OOOOhhhhh, KYUUTO!! I love Amiguriumi. I would give my first little fella to my little brother. He is on the Autism spectrum and has a fascination with “littles.” I love to crochet and amiguriumi is so nice and quick. I could use some more crochet hooks…I broke my last one (I had NO idea it was even possible)! Thanks for doing the giveaway.
I have twin cousins who are 11, I would make a pair of something for them! KYUUTO!!!!
Sweetness! I would love to win this lovely prize… I’m a crocheter but kind of limited in what I have, and I’ve never made an amigurumi (however you spell that) before!
I would love to give one to my little cousin, thanks!
I think my daughters, who crochet. would like to try their hand at making these cute things.

those are so cute! my daughter would be the first to get the cute little doll! then, I would get busy crocheting some more for my nieces and nephews.
Oh – and I am a “beginner” (read – don’t know how, have never done it) crocheter, so the hooks would be great!
I love crocheting! My first project would definitely go to my son. From there I’d venture out to my nieces and nephews.
I would include one in the shoebox sets my family is donating. They are so adorable!
The only thing I know how to crochet is a simple afghan with a straight stitch (I only have 1 hook!) I would love to learn some more. Thanks for the giveaway!
I would give it to my new niece Sadie.
Thanks for the awesome giveaway!
